Basil Limeade Drink Recipe
This is a refreshing basil limeade drink recipe that is simple to make and delicious. It is the perfect beverage for spring and summer. I could write about all kinds of things to try to make this blog post more interesting but really you’re just here for the limeade, right?
I do want to give a quick shout-out to edible flowers for spring and summer drink garnishes though! My favorite is Johnny jump ups. I don’t exactly have a green thumb and my back yard is literally rocks, but somehow they grow. They seem to like shady spots, cooler temperatures, and they reseed themselves coming up in fun and random spots (that’s a plus for me… I guess maybe not everyone would feel that way). I mostly use these little violas as garnishes for drinks and cocktails, but you could use them to garnish any food or add them to a salad. They really don’t taste like a whole lot; sometimes I just pick them and eat a couple as I walk around my yard!
Basil Limeade Recipe
Ingredients
Basil Simple Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup basil leaves fresh
Basil Limeade
- 1 ounce lime juice fresh squeezed
- 1 ounce basil simple syrup
- 1 pinch sea salt
- 12 ounces water
Optional
- 2-3 each strawberries frozen
- 1 each mint or basil sprig fresh
- edible flowers
Instructions
Basil Simple Syrup
- Measure the water and sugar into a microwavable container; I use my glass measuring cup. Microwave for about four minutes, or until the sugar is dissolved completely (you may need to stir a little for the last bit to dissolve).
- Add the fresh basil leaves to your hot simple syrup and blend it using an immersion blender. If you don't have an immersion blender try chopping the basil and mixing it in.
- Allow the basil to steep for 5-20 minutes depending on how strong of a flavor you would like. Pour the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a container. Store in the refrigerator for a few weeks to a month.
Basil Limeade
- Mix all of the ingredients together, along with the frozen strawberries if you are using them, and stir together with some ice cubes. Add the garnishes of your choice and enjoy!
And there you have it! a simple and easy basil limeade drink recipe! I’ve also used lemon instead of lime which is equally as delicious, or you could use fresh mint or rosemary as your herb instead of the basil. Get creative or go back to the basics using a plain simple syrup without the basil for a really good glass of home made lemonade.
